Robert Blaauw is Executive Director at RJB Consultancy Arctic & Energy. He has 36 years of experience in the international upstream oil and gas business in a variety of positions integrating alternative perspectives on resource development ranging from ecosystem considerations, indigenous people’s interests, commercial business and external messaging.
Previously, Robert Blaauw was the Senior Advisor Global Artic Theme for Shell International Exploration and Production BV in the Netherlands. Robert Joined Shell in 1980. He Started in technical and operational functions and thereafter moved to commercial and general management roles in Shell operating companies in the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Australia. In 2002, Robert moved to Shell’s corporate headquarters in The Netherlands, where he was Business Development manager for the Caspian, Middle East and later Russia. Robert helped develop Shell’s Artic capabilities (technical, social, environmental and communications) on a pan-Arctic scale and starting in 2009 managed the Global Artic Theme for Shell on a full-time basis. That job included working with strategic partners in support of Shell’s license to operate in the Arctic and working with industry associations to improve global industry standards in the Arctic.
Robert grew up in The Hague and studied at the Technical University Delft where he received an M.Sc in Civil Engineering.
