Assistant Deputy Minister, Programs and Services, Department of Infrastructure, Government of the Northwest Territories, Canada
John Vandenberg was assigned to the position of Assistant Deputy Minister, Energy in March 2015 and assumed the role of Assistant Deputy Minister, Programs and Services in April of 2017. The position is responsible for the development of energy policy, planning and programming related to conventional and renewable energy projects and initiatives, and for leading the consolidation of energy functions within the Department of Infrastructure, of the Government of the Northwest Territories in Canada.
Prior to joining the Department’s Fuel Services Division in 2005, John worked in the private sector and collectively has over 30 years of experience working in logistics, purchasing, and petroleum supply and transportation. John has worked and travelled extensively throughout Canada’s north for many years, and makes his home in Yellowknife, the Capital of the Northwest Territories.
The Energy Division is presently exploring a number of renewable and alternative energy initiatives, including the application of wind and solar energy technologies to decrease the use of hydrocarbon fuels for electrical generation and the use of biomass fuels for heating of government owned facilities across the Northwest Territories.
