Principal Scientist, in Power Systems and Renewables team, VTT Technical Research Centre, Finland
Esa Peltola. MSc in Electric Power Engineering, joined VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland in 1980, where he has been working as research scientist, team leader, key account manager and at present as principal scientist in Power Systems and Renewables team. After joining VTT, he was working at high voltage testing and in the early phases of r&d of wind power in Finland. Since late 1980’s he has been active in the areas of R&D of wind energy systems and technology in cold climate, both within several national and EU-projects, and domestic and international assignments. He has also worked at Kemijoki Oy, a hydro power company operating in Northern Finland, in commercialization of blade heating technology for wind turbines and in wind farm development, construction and operation in cold climate. He used to be the Operating Agent of International Energy Agency (IEA)R,D&D Wind Task 19 “Wind Energy In Cold Climates” over several years. His present activities as principal scientist at VTT are mostly related to the planning and preparation cold climate wind and wind integration related r&d projects and facilities, both onshore and offshore.
